i started making cloth diapers because i really like them. sounds funny, i know. i found myself looking at them online: studying the fabrics, layers, closures and sewing methods. the more i learned, the more i knew i needed to make some. but i don’t have any of my own children to wrap them in yet. so i decided to make cloth diapers for other babies.
i was first introduced to cloth diapers when i was a baby and my mother used them. haha, it’s true, but that’s not the full story. a few years ago, i was re-introduced to cloth diapers by the mother of a baby boy in my group-care class. i was fascinated by their shape, snaps and easy-to-use function. not to mention, all the colorful fabrics and well fitting, breathable diaper covers. for me, it was such a lovely variation on the basic disposable diaper which i had been covering children in for years. these cloth diapers had personality and they worked really well. they were better for the environment and for baby. i was so taken with them, i began researching cloth diapers.
and the rest is sewing history.
oh, and one more tidbit. i really am an aunt. it’s still a new position for me, but it makes me very happy nonetheless.
